We Deeply Mourn Grand Chief Cathy Merrick
It is with immense sadness that we extend our condolences. Grand Chief Merrick was a formidable leader whose dedication to Indigenous reconciliation and the betterment of all First Nations in Manitoba touched countless lives. Her influence reached far beyond Manitoba, impacting Indigenous communities across Canada.
This sudden loss is deeply shocking, and our hearts go out to her family, friends, and community during this difficult time.
Grand Chief Merrick made history as the first female Grand Chief of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, first elected in October 2022 and re-elected in July 2024. Her legacy of kindness, leadership and advocacy will be remembered for generations.
