Province of Manitoba

The New Democratic Party (NDP) currently leads the government of Manitoba, under the leadership of Premier Wab Kinew, who assumed office following the recent provincial election. As the first Indigenous Premier of Manitoba, Wab Kinew brings a fresh perspective to provincial governance, focusing on reconciliation, social equity, and sustainable development. His leadership signifies a historic moment for Manitoba, highlighting inclusivity and progressive policies.

Premier Kinew's administration has prioritized reconciliation with Indigenous communities, introducing initiatives that enhance support for economic development and efforts to protect and promote Indigenous languages and cultures. The government is dedicated to implementing the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and advancing the rights of Indigenous peoples in Manitoba.

To further this mission, Premier Kinew established the new Indigenous Economic Development Department, led by Minister Ian Bushie. The department aims to foster sustainable growth and prosperity for Indigenous communities throughout the province. Minister Bushie, of Anishinaabe descent from Hollow Water First Nation, brings a deep understanding of the issues facing Indigenous communities in Manitoba. His background and experiences drive his commitment to advancing reconciliation and improving the lives of Indigenous peoples across the province.

Minister Bushie plays a crucial role in strengthening the government’s relationships with Indigenous communities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.

The First Peoples Economic Growth Fund expresses gratitude for the government's continued commitment to FPEGF and its support in promoting the economic development and prosperity of all Manitoba First Nations communities and their members.
